ARRL June VHF Contest – AD5XI

Before this contest I had only had a single QSO on the 6M band from my QTH in Elkridge, MD so I decided that I should change that and spend some time in the ARRL June VHF contest.

The only band I have a “decent” antenna for is 6M, which is a dipole that is part of a WARC band parallel dipole set up in the attic. The SWR was a little high, but it was workable. My passion in Amateur Radio is CW, and I wanted to see how much activity there would be on CW in this contest given that FT8 is permitted. I was pleasantly surprised and managed to catch some nice openings as far as central Texas and along the Gulf Coast.

I was running 100W of CW from my Icom IC-7610 into my attic dipole. The results were very good considering my very limited station, and it even qualified me for the PVRC Pipe Awards, coming 4th in the Dipole section!
